The online consultation ran during October 2010 and sought comments from police officers and staff, including PCSOs. The responses are being considered by the Review Team alongside other submissions, including national staff associations and trade unions.

The consultation was completed in the context of the Comprehensive Spending Review, with the aim of a 4% reduction in police spending per year, with a 20% reduction in Central Government funding by 2014-15.

The coalition government agreement sets out a programme for the reform of public services, including changes to the police and policing. ‘Policing in the 21st Century – Reconnecting Police and the Public’, sets out the government’s vision for the future of the police force, with proposals on how to improve accountability and value for money

The consultation covered seven questions covering overtime, recognising good performance, incentives, restricted duties and pay scales.
