The communications can be delivered as stand-alone training, or integrated with existing training to provide a holistic approach to understanding and improving both process safety and occupational health and safety amongst Network Rail personnel.

We envisage the communications will:

1       Provide understanding of how asset integrity and data collection and verification helps build a safe and sustainable railway;

2       Highlight the roles and responsibilities of Network Rail staff in managing risks to asset integrity through data collection and verification thereby protecting themselves and the wider public;

3       Clarify the way in which the proposed S&C asset data verification programme and applications will contribute to enhancing infrastructure maintenance and asset integrity with the objective of improving safety;

4       Ensure that Network Rail personnel recognise the benefit and importance of asset integrity and data collection and verification so that compliance is driven by internal motivation (i.e. ‘hearts and minds’) and not just in order to meet regulatory requirements.
